RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Administration and Finance for Goddard Earth Sciences & Technology (GEST) and Joint Center for Earth Systems Technology (JCET), the incumbent will be responsible for providing IT support to the JCET/GEST administrative office (50%), as well as supporting grant funded research (50%). Administrative office support duties include: providing web site maintenance and office desktop support; serving as a liaison between Goddard Space Flight Center’s and UMBC’s Office of Information Technology; purchasing computers, software, and associated hardware; and managing inventory control. Grant funded research support duties include maintaining Linux-based servers and scientific programming. In addition, the incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area and at least two years of related experience, preferably in an academic or research environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must have: an understanding of internet services and protocols for peer-to-peer and network applications on multiple platforms (Linux, OS X, and Windows); knowledge and programming ability in scientific support software including MATLAB, Fortran or IDL; knowledge and experience in administering Unix or Linux-based servers, L.A.M.P. (Apache 2, MySQL 5, and PHP5), and/or RAIDS (Levels 0, 1, 5, and 6); and account management skills. Knowledge and understanding of web active content management software is an asset.

SALARY:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.Note: Position is 50% regular funded and 50% grant funded. This is a grant-funded position wherein employment is contingent upon the renewal of the grant and carries no layoff or reinstatement rights.
