UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, BALTIMORE COUNTY
GODDARD EARTH SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY (GEST) CENTER

ASSISTANT RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITION

The Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Center (GEST) will make a Research Faculty appointment at the Assistant Research Scientist level. GEST makes faculty appointments at the Research Associate, Assistant Research Scientist, Associate Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist levels, with salary commensurate with experience. GEST is a Cooperative Agreement between the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) to collaborate in research programs in the Earth, Information, and Instrumentation sciences.

613-127-440 Research Activity - Modeling, Measurement and Analysis of Atmospheric Composition and Its Effects on Climate

An Assistant Research Scientist is sought to conduct studies concerning the composition of the troposphere and stratosphere and its effects on chemistry and climate. The research will involve development and testing of comprehensive models of the Earth system and their evaluation using measurement data, especially that taken by instruments on NASA satellite and aircraft missions as well as ground-based systems.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Atmospheric Chemistry or related fields. Experience in atmospheric observations and data analysis is highly desirable with a combination of interests and expertise in measurements of atmospheric trace species and tropospheric/stratospheric dynamics as it relates to trace gas transport and climate system through radiative processes. Experience in field missions to validate satellite data with airborne and ground-based data desirable.

For best consideration, submit electronically a cover letter (indicating position #613-127-440), a complete curriculum vitae, home address, visa status (if applicable) and names and telephone numbers of three references by September 21, 2010 (application materials for this position will be accepted until position is filled) to: Dr. Ray Hoff, (applications_GEST_JCET@umbc.edu), Director, GEST, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Suite 320, 5523 Research Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21228.
